A 68-year old man, Raphael Chidebelu, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after he reportedly assaulted his 42-year old wife, Obiageli Chidebelu and used a cutlass to chase her from home at night over sex.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Odofin Street, Olodi, Apapa area of Lagos State, where they reside.
He has been arrested for assault and attempting to kill his wife, Obiageli.
According to the residents, the man, Raphael and the wife, Obiageli had been having constant quarrels over many issues including sex demands. The man was heard complaining that Obiageli does not allow him to touch her at night while she insisted that he will not touch her unless he starts treating her as his wife and take care of her needs.
According to their neighbours, their constant quarrels were said to have seriously broken down their relationship as husband and wife because of the complex nature of their disagreements as it has become difficult for neighbours to resolve their differences.
On the day the latest one took place, it was said to have started in the middle of the night and Raphael was said to have rained fist blows and inflicted injury on her face before he picked up a cutlass and sent her away that night.
The matter was reported to the Police at Gender Section of the Lagos State Command and Raphael was invited. He resisted before the Police forced him and detained at the Command for interrogation over his conduct on his wife.
After thorough interrogation, he was found culpable and subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty before the Court to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence that brought him before the Court.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, granted him bail with sureties and ordered his remand in Correctional Centre pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned for mention.
