A 35-year old man, Mr. Taofeeq Ogunleye has landed in big trouble after the police arrested him for allegedly using petrol to burning down 7 vehicles worth about N14m.
The alleged arson took place at Raypower line in Alagbado area of Lagos where the suspect was said have led some group of persons to cause violence in the area.
It was gathered that the group had disagreement with one Azzez Abiola and they threatened him with a gun and he escaped. When Mr Abiola escaped, the group as allegedly led by Ogunleye was said to have used petrol and burnt vehicles and other properties. The police claimed that the value of the 7 vehicles was N7m contrary to the claims by the residents who said that the value was more than N14m
However; the police later trailed Ogunleye, arrested and charged him before Ikeja Magistrates court for conspiracy and malicious damage.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Promise Olatunji did not oppose his bail because the offence was said to be a bailable one.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Y.O. Aje-Afunwa granted Ogunleye bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 4 July, 2018.
P.M.EXPRESS learnt that the police were still trailing to arrest other suspects who were involved in the arson said to be at large.
