CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
It was double tragedy for a 17-year old girl, who was raped, she became pregnant and was forced to attempt abortion through a street nurse in Bariga area of Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that suspect, Amusa Hammed, has been arrested by Police operatives and is currently in Police custody over the alleged offence while his accomplice, the nurse, is now at large.
It was gathered that the suspect, Hammed, reportedly lured the victim and got her confused before engaging her in sex romp, which eventually resulted in pregnancy.
She told Hammed about the development and he then arranged a nurse, who carried out an abortion and terminated the pregnancy in order to cover up the act. But it eventually leaked and the victim revealed what happened.
This was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana. He said that on 6th December, 2019, at about 1639hrs, Bariga Police Station received a complaint that one Amusa Hammed ‘m’ 22, of No. 7 Dassy Castro off Odunsi Street, Bariga, defiled a 17-year old girl (name withheld).
She was taken to Mirabel Centre at Ikeja for medical treatment and forensic examination. The medical report showed that she was pregnant and had an abortion.
Hence, the suspect, Hammed, was arrested by detectives from the Family Support Unit, where he was interrogated and he confessed to the commission of the crime and mentioned the nurse, who helped him in attempting the abortion, who was said to be on the run and detectives are on her trail.
DSP Elkana stated that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered that the suspect be charged to Court.
The suspect risk several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court for the alleged offence.
