Police operatives from the Ogun State Command have arrested a man, Monday Ogbole, for allegedly killing his neighbour, Murtala Jimoh, by smashing his head with a stick during a public fight and he died in the process.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Itele Awori area of Ogun State, where they reside.

The cause of the fight was not disclosed by the Police, who confirmed that they were neighbours who engaged in a public fight and efforts by other neighbours to separate the two yielded no result.

During the fight, the deceased had the upper hand and the suspect ran into his compound as neighbours who were trying to separate them thought they had seen the end of the duel.

However, the neighbours were shocked and scampered for safety when they saw the suspect with a heavy stick running toward the  victim, who did not realise what was happening. He smashed the stick on the victim’s head and he fell on his back with blood gushing out from that part of his head.

The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was referred to another hospital and he died midway to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Lagos, where he was said to have been referred to.

This was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odutola Omolola, who stated that the suspect had been arrested, adding that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department once the preliminary investigation was completed.

“There is going to be an autopsy. The corpse has already been deposited at the Ota General Hospital morgue. We are assuring the family that justice will be served,” Odutola stated.

The suspect risks several years of imprisonment if found culpable for murder under the Criminal law of the State.
