CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
A clergyman in Lagos, Pastor Sunday Olaniyi, has escaped death after a 40-year old man, Waidi Dende, brought out cutlass and pursued to attack him before he (the Pastor) took to his heels over an undisclosed matter.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Odo Afa community, Ayobo area of Lagos State, where they reside.
When it happened, Pastor Olaniyi was said to have run very fast to escape the attack, yet the suspect, Waidi, pursued him with the cutlass but he managed to escape and went into hiding.
He later went to the Ayobo Police Station and reported the alleged attack claiming that Waidi wanted to kill with a cutlass.
According to Police sources, they had disagreement over an undisclosed matter, which prompted the suspect to use the cutlass to attack Pastor Olaniyi though he escaped unhurt.
Waidi was subsequently arrested and detained at the Police station for interrogation over the act.
After interrogation and having been found culpable, he was later charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for threatening to kill the complainant.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Rachael Williams, asked the Court to give a short adjournment to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. M. O. Dawodu, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
However, he was remanded in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri, town, Lagos pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 16th November, 2021, for mention.
