Justice may have come the way a 5-year old girl, who was brutally defiled by their neighbour, Aikoya Efe Sunday, following the judgment of the Special Offences Unit of the Lagos State High Court.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Hon Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Special Offences Unit of the Lagos State High Court on Thursday 1st December, 2022, sentenced Mr. Sunday to life imprisonment without an option of fine for defiling the girl.
He was charged before the Court by the Gender Section of the State Police Command after he was arrested and found culpable for the alleged offence on one count charge of defilement under Section 135 of the Criminal law Lagos State 2015.
The Prosecution Counsel called four witnesses to prove its case against the defendant over the defilement of the girl, which included the the nominal complainant, Dr. Maria Afadapa and Inspector Olakunle Orebe respectively.
The Court found that the evidence of the respective Prosecution witnesses were believable and consistent and found him guilty as charged.
The Presiding Judge, Justice Soladoye, particularly noted that the victim’s identification of the defendant and how she was sexually assaulted by the defendant, made her account vivid, believable and truthful.
“The Court noted that the Defendant is everything a neighbour should not be. He is irresponsible, mean and vile and his conduct should not be condoned. Most importantly, that the Prosecution proved the ingredients of the offence against the defendant”Justice Soladoye stated.
The Court therefore, convicted and sentenced him to life imprisonment on the one count charge against him and ordered that his name be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register as maintained by Lagos State.
