A Police officer, Ogundowole Ojo, had a nasty experience while enforcing Lagos traffic laws on the highway as he was beating mercilessly by an angry driver and injured in the process.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Idimu area of Lagos, where PC Ojo went to perform his official duty before he was accosted by his attacker, Bankole Ofekaye, for contravening traffic law of the State.

The 35-year old man, Ofekaye, was said to have contravened traffic law while the victim, Ojo, was performing his lawful duty. Ofekaye was said to have held, battered him and tore his Police traffic jacket in the process.

He was later rescued and was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment following the injuries he sustained on his body during the ugly attack. Police officers were mobilized and the suspect was arrested and detained at the station.

After interrogation, he was subsequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for allegedly conspiring with others at large to assault the Police officer and injured him in the process.

However,  he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.

The matter was adjourned till 14th May, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at correctional centre centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
