A 32-year old man, Tunde Oyebode has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court for allegedly breaking into a place of worship in the night in an attempt to steal but was caught by security men.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Oyebode in defence said he broke into the church to pray because it was a place of worship where anybody can enter to pray at any time.

He had since been arraigned before Ogba Magistrates’ court and remanded in prison custody for the alleged offence.

The incident happened at about 11pm at the Evangelical Power Grace Church in Meiran in the suburb of Lagos where the church is located.

Tunde was apprehended and handed over to the police at Meiran division who detained him to know why he broke into the church.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Oyebode told the police that he had issues that were bothering him and he decided to go to any church to pray but when he got to the church it was under lock and key, he then broke it and entered.

He explained that before he could settle down to pray, he was apprehended and labeled a criminal.

He could not explain why he did not seek the permission of the church management to meet and obtain the key to open the church if he so wished to pray there.

He was charged for burglary and attempt to commit felony under the Criminal Code.

He pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Oyebode was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
