CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
There was confusion at a Police Station in Lagos after a 25-year old man, Mr Emmanuel Tochukwu, summoned courage, sneaked into the premises, stole a tricycle seized from the owner and escaped.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened inside Ejigbo Police Division where the Tricycle with registration number SMK 849QUE belonging to an undisclosed person was seized and kept.
The theft reportedly caused confusion at the police station because it happened during the day. The police officer who had seized the tricycle did not know how to explain the situation to the owner. It was gathered that the police officers went out in search of the tricycle until one of the station guides was able to identify Mr. Tochukwu and the tricycle was later recovered.
Following the alleged theft, Mr. Tochukwu was arrested and he reportedly claimed that it was better for him to use the tricycle to work than for it to be left to rust away at the police station.
The police however found him culpable and charged him before Ejigbo Magistrates court for stealing.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. G. Simon did not oppose his bail but asked the court for a short adjournment for the hearing.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, L.K.J. Layeni granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect the bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 16th July, 2018.
