It is certainly not the best of times for a 34-year old lady in Lagos as she was dumped by her lover, Gbenga Akinyelure, who reportedly collected the sum of N20m from her to set up a business with the promise to marry her only to dump her for another lady.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ibeju-Lekki area where the victim resides and met Akinyelure, who is a graduate of Economics from the University of Lagos.
The man, Gbenga Akinyelure, was said to have met the lady, they become lovers and agreed to get married. However, Akinyelure had financial difficulty and the lady offered to give him the money which he used to establish a business. After a while, he dumped the lady and relocated to Dubai, UAE. The embattled lady then asked him to refund her money; he agreed to do so, issued a dude cheque and fled to Dubai, United Arab Emirate.
However, he ran out of luck when he sneaked into Nigeria recently unknown him that the lady was monitoring his movement. She informed the police and he was arrested by detectives from the Lagos State Command.
After interrogation, he was charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged fraud.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Peter Nwaogwugwu, informed the Court that the defendant now lives abroad and may likely jump bail while asking the Court to give conditions that will enable him to come for trial in the interest of justice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Y.O. Aje-Afunwa, granted him bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum.
The whole matter became worse after the defendant, Gbenga, was remanded in prison custody and his elder brother, Funmilayo Akinyelure and one Daniel Ademoyegun went to the Court and stood as sureties for him. He was said to have betrayed them, jumped bail and escaped to an unknown place probably Dubai, putting the sureties in trouble.
The Court then ordered the police to arrest the sureties; the prosecutor did so and they were arraigned in Court for conspiracy and obstruction of justice by failing to produce Gbenga as they promised in the bail bond.
They pleaded not guilty and were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the sureties may have to pay the money involved if they will be left off the hook as Gbenga was still at large.
