A 28-year old motorcycle operator, Bakare Moshood, heaved a sigh of relief after he was charged before the Court and sentenced to two hours community service for beating up a Police Inspector in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Inspector, Bola Oladimeji, attached to Okota Police Division, was said to have suffered his fate at Ago Round-About in Okota area of Lagos while on lawful duty to control traffic in the area.
The convict, Moshood, was driving against traffic on the road and was accosted by Oladimeji for breaking the traffic laws. When he was apprehended, he offered to settle him with some amount of money at the spot to continue his work but the victim refused insisting that the motorcycle must be taken to the police station.
At that point, P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Oladimeji became angry, grabbed him and rained blows on his face in order to overpower him to escape. The officer was badly injured as a result of the blows.
However, Moshood was unlucky as other officers who were on duty rushed to the scene, rescued their colleague and then took him and the motorbike to Okota Police Division where he was detained.
At the police station, he admitted that he assaulted him in order to escape before his other colleagues came and arrested him.
The police found him culpable and charged him before the Isolo Magistrates Court for assault on the officer.
He pleaded guilty and pleaded for leniency promising that he will not do such in future.
The prosecutor, Inspector Oje Uagbale, presented the fact of the matter and asked the Court to sentence him accordingly to serve as deterrent to others who might try such in future.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A Teluwo, having considered that he was remorseful and did not waste the time of the Court found him guilty and sentence him for community service before he was released to go.
Oladimeji was said to have expressed satisfaction on the conviction and punishment by cleaning the Court premises before he was asked to go.
