A 25-year man, Ibrahim Lawal has landed in trouble after he went to a market and bought food items worth N1000 and refused to pay at Ijora Badia area of Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that his action has landed him in prison as he was arrested and charged before a Lagos court for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.

It was gathered that the owner of the items, Mrs Oseh Ejiro refused Lawal going home with the perishable items without paying her which resulted in exchange of words and physical fight in the market.

Some traders at the market who saw what happened  contacted the police at Ijora Division who moved in and brought the situation under control.

The parties were taken to the Police Station for amicable settlement of the matter because the items were said to be perishable and might spoil.

At the station, our correspondent gathered that Lawal informed the police that he had not eaten anything for some days and had no money to buy either and so he decided to get those items to cook at home.

On the other hand, the owner of the items, Ejiro insisted that Lawal should pay  because she used money to buy them.

Ejiro in her argument said that if that was how anybody comes to her shop to pick items, then the shop will close down and the little money she was managing in the business was borrowed from a Micro-finance bank.

The police later directed Lawal to pay for those items but he insisted that he had no money pay.
He was then charged to court for the alleged offence.
At the Apapa Magistrates’ court where he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr Timothy Abolarinwa granted him bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
Lawal was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was slated to come up on 3 May 2017 for mention.
