A 20-year old man, Philip Yerima has confessed, regretting his inability to bite off a policeman’s ear after he was arrested, convicted before a court and jailed for 12 months without an option of fine.

The Kogi State- born Yerima said that what he had targeted was removing the ear of the policeman, one Corporal Julius Edwin, but he narrowly missed it and ended up biting his left shoulder. The suspect was arraigned before Ejigbo Magistrates court, he pleaded guilty and did not show any remorse over the assault.

The incident happened at Idowu area of Igando where Edwin attached to the Idimu Division went to arrest Yerima. P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Edwin went to effect Yerima’s arrest over an undisclosed offence. However, Yerima resisted and insisted that he did not commit any offence and he will not follow Edwin to the police station.

It was learnt that the policeman attempted to enforce his arrest but an angry Yerima grabbed his head, drew it to his mouth and attempted to bite off his ear.
Edwin was lucky as Yerima missed his ear but gave him serious bite on his shoulder and injured him.

The victim was rushed to a hospital for treatment, Yerima was later arrested and charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court for assault.

He pleaded guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor presented facts and asked the court to sentence him accordingly as deterrent to those who may attempt to do such. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J.O.E. Ajayi found him guilty as charged and sentenced him accordingly.

It was while he was being taken to prison that he expressed his regrets and revealed that he actually targeted his ear but missed it.
