Man Kills Neighbour 5 Days To His Wedding

Police operatives have arrested a man, Kazeem Mohammed, over the murder of his neighbour, who was a staff of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS ) unit of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Olokose Oluwasola Ojo in Kwara State.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Ojo was allegedly murdered for ritual purposes by his next-door neighbour, Mohammad and his gang members five days for his wedding.

The incident happened on Monday, March 8, while the deceased, who was at the peak of preparations for his wedding scheduled to hold in Akure, Ondo State, on March 13, 2021, reportedly gave N350,000 to Kazeem Mohammad to help him buy three cows.

According to Police sources, the suspect, Mohammed, who hails from Patigi in Kwara North, had previously convinced and tricked the deceased that cows are very cheap in his area.

The duo had on 8th March, travelled to Patigi with the intention of buying the three cows while the bride to be, planned to return to Ilorin on the same day and then take the cows to Akure the next day for the wedding.

However, the plan did not work as the groom-to-be was attacked in the bush in Patigi by other members of the gang, who were already laying an ambush.The gang were said to have dispossessed the deceased of other valuables including the N350,000.00, and his phone through which they called his relations that he had been kidnapped and demanded N12m ransom. 

During negotiation with his relations, the suspected ritualists agreed to collect N3m in ransom before he could be released for his wedding.
The suspects collected the victim’s phone, ATM cards which were with him, about N1.2m including the victim’s March 2021 salary, which was paid into his account before he was murdered in cold blood.

The suspects killed the victim shortly after the relations paid part of the ransom demanded.
The spokesperson of the State Police Command, Kayode Okasanmi, confirmed the incident and said some arrests have been made.

“The incident is true. We have commenced investigation and started making some arrests, that’s much I can say for now. The investigation is still ongoing” the Police spokesman said.
