A 38-year old Adewale Suleiman, who allegedly specialized in producing fake driving licences, has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court for forgery and stealing.

Oyo State born Suleiman landed into trouble after the officials of Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIO, detected the  fake driving license he issued to one Akaya Paul.

Apart from that, Suleiman forged stamp and signature of Onasanya Oluwafemi who is a VIO staff of the Lagos State government Ministry of Transport in charged of driving license services in Alimosho local government. These he used to deceived unsuspecting Nigerians.

P.M.EXPRESS learnt that Suleiman was not the only person involved in the racket, as others  involved are now on the run.

Our correspondent gathered that the scam was discovered when a VIO apprehended Paul while presenting the fake driving licence during a routine vehicle check.

On preliminary investigation, it was discovered that the licence was fake. He was arrested and taken to the police at the Ikotun division.

At the station, Paul revealed that he paid N15,000 to Suleiman who issued the licence as the original and he did not suspect any foul play.

The police arrested Suleiman who confessed that the driving licence was fake and the VIO signature was also forged.

He reportedly confessed that they were forging the licences and given them to motorists as temporal arrangement because of the difficulty in getting original licences.

He was charged to court for forgery and stealing under the Criminal Code.

At the Magistrate’s court sitting in Ejigbo where he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Kenneth Asibor objected to his bail and told the court that the offence Suleiman committed was serious one, adding that he may likely jump bail.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J.O.E Adeyemi granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, while one of the sureties must owned a landed property.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail.

The matter was adjourned till 27 March 2017.
