A 28-year old man, Mr. Jacob Dare, has been arrested inside a church after he pretended to be mad and attempted to abduct a 4-year old girl during church service.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that incident happened on 19th July, 2018, at Christ Anointed Church, Ayobo, Lagos, where the 4-year old victim, Miss Emmanuela Rufus went to the church with her parents.

The police alleged that Mr. Dare who resided at 18 Ilaje Close in Kirikiri Town, Lagos, who was not a member, went to the church and was seen making efforts to kidnap the victim with a gift of N50.
However, the kidnap attempt failed after it was discovered as the suspect was apprehended. At that point, he pretended to be insane but he was arrested and detained by the police.

The police said that during investigation, Mr. Dare discovered that his trick of feigning insanity was not working. He then changed and claimed that he went to the church to worship and was only asking the little girl and her mother which direction to go after the service. However, the police did not accept his claims as stated by the Lagos State Commissioner of the Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal at the Command, Lagos.

The police boss said that Mr. Dare was arrested after the father of the victim, Mr. Ebhobogbe Rufus, reported to the police that the suspect wanted to kidnap his 4-year old child in the church. He said that during investigation, the police found him culpable and he will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

The suspect was among the over 50 suspected criminals paraded by the police at the Command on Monday.
CP Edgal reiterated his earlier stand that there was no hiding place for any form of criminality in the state; any of such will be detected by the eagle eyed officers, arrested and prosecuted.
