A 43-year old man, Joseph Ifeanyi, has been arrested in Lagos for recruiting himself into the Nigerian Police Force, moving to the road to control traffic and collecting money from motorists.

The suspect allegedly acquired a police uniform and started work without the knowledge of the police authorities for several days before he was eventually arrested.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Ifeanyi was arrested at Cappa Junction  along the Oshodi area of Lagos on police uniform where he ‘dutifully’ engaged motorists and was collecting settlement.
While he was on the illegal duty, the police authorities got the information and dispatched the operatives of FSARS to the place. He was apprehended and detained at the Command, Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that during interrogation, Ifeanyi admitted that he made the police uniform found on him, recruited himself into the Police Force and went on the road to control traffic while collecting money like theregular officers do on the roads.

The police found him culpable and charged him before the Ikeja Magistrates court for impersonation by wearing police uniform and acting as a policeman.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Benson Emuerhi, did not oppose his bail but asked the court for a short adjournment for trial to enable him to prove the case.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Amzat, granted Ifeanyi bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 15th November, 2018.
