The 18-year old marriage between Wasiu Abdulrahim and his estranged wife, Muibat, has collapsed over claims of hot temper and refusal by the wife to cook at home.
Thus, the husband filed a suit before the Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking for the dissolution of the marriage.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Court granted the request and dissolved the marriage accordingly.
In her judgment, the presiding judge, Mrs. O.E. Owoseni, held that the marriage between the parties was dissolved in the interest of peace.
Mrs. Owoseni held that the court could do nothing, since the petitioner had insisted that he was no longer willing to remain in the union.
“Therefore, the marriage between both of you has ceased to be, and you can go your separate ways,” she said.
The court granted custody of the two male children of the marriage, aged 13 and 16, to the petitioner on the grounds that they required guidance from their father.
In the same vein, the court granted custody of the two female children of the union, aged nine and six years, to the respondent, on the grounds that they required the care of their mother in their formative years.
“Mr. Abdulrahim is hereby ordered to be responsible for the education and all other welfare of the children. Both of you must provide each other access to the children,” the court held.
In the suit, the petitioner had told the court that his wife had subjected him to psychological and physical trauma in the last three years, following constant threats.
He added that the respondent had also stopped cooking for the home, despite having made food available.
On her part, Mrs. Muibat said it was true that she had stopped cooking for the home.
She however, remained silent on the other allegations by the petitioner.
The respondent had also urged the court to grant her custody of all her children, on the grounds that the petitioner might turn them against her.
