Man Sent To Prison After Failure To Settle Police

There was a drama at a Lagos Magistrate’s court sitting in Ejigbo when a bus driver, David Adisa was brought to court and refused to enter prison Black Maria van enroute prison for committing traffic offence.
Adisa wept openly and fell on the ground, alleging that the police brought him to court because they fined him N5,000 as a deterrent to others road users who was in a habit of not paying their daily settlement on the road to the police.
A witness who had come to court testify against the police was disappointed because he was not allow to testify what happened on that day between the police and Adisa.

Our correspondent gathered that Adisa had been paying the settlement to the police until his bus developed faults and had been with the mechanic for sometime which make him unable to settle.
The man claimed that he had explained to the police and ask them to be patient with him that once he resume fully, he will settle them but they refused.
However, police told the court that Adisa was apprehended with his bus with registration number, VZ 977 AAA for obstruction, operating without valid licence and broken light on the high way.
He was taken to the station while his vehicle was impounded and kept as exhibit at the station.
He pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J.O.E Adeyemi granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
He was remanded in prison pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
But when Adisa realized that he was being taken to prison, he fell on the ground and wept bitterly to the pity of those present in the court premises.
He was consoled by the prison officials who assured him that they will assist him and before he got up and follow them to the prison.
The matter was adjourned till 28 November 2016.
