A 35-year old man, one John Akerenyi, who allegedly attempted to seduce a 16-year old girl into sex, has landed in trouble as he was arrested and remanded in prison custody in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Akerenyi was charged before the court for sexual assault which was statutory rape and may be imprisoned for the alleged offence if the court tries and finds him culpable.
The incident happened at Coker Onififu Street in Obawole area of Agege, Lagos where they reside.
It was gathered that Akerenyi allegedly lured the victim to his apartment and touched her private part in order to seduce her into sex. However, the victim resisted and raised alarm which attracted their neighbours and he allowed her to go. The victim later told her parents what happened and the matter was reported to the police at Isokoko Division. Akerenyi was arrested and detained at the police station for investigation.
During investigation, the man reportedly admitted touching her but claimed that he did not penetrate her. The police found him culpable and charged him before Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emerhi, did not oppose his bail. Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect the bail condition. The matter was adjourned till 11th February, 2019.
