Residents of Egan in the outskirts of Lagos were shocked after a 43-year old Ibukun Adeolowu reportedly vented his anger on his father’s property by willfully and unlawfully committed arson.
He was arrested and charged before a Lagos court after he reportedly poured petrol inside the rooms and set his father’s house on fire.
The incident happened at Adeolowu Street off Isuti Road, Egan where the family house is located.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that all the properties inside the rooms were burnt and destroyed before their neighbours intervened, quenched the fire and prevented it from spreading to other rooms in the house. The residents were still wondering what could have made Ibukun to commit such crime.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Ibukun had unresolved disagreement with his father, Bayo. It was learnt that the family members had tried to resolve the matter to no avail until the incident happened.
It was gathered that Ibukun returned to the house from Osun State, committed the crime and escaped. The incident was then reported to the police at Igando who trailed and arrested him.
He was charged before Magistrates court at Ejigbo for willfully and unlawfully setting the house ablaze.
He pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Jadesola Ajayi granted Ibukun bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in the like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition. The matter was adjourned till 11 December, 2017.
When P.M.EXPRESS contacted Ibukun, he denied that he wanted to burn the whole house. He explained that he had issues with his father who decided to use the fire incident to deal with him. He said their family will soon resolve the matter and hopefully he will soon come out of prison.
