A self acclaimed spiritualist, Mallam Ayu Sugum, has been arrested for allegedly inducing one Abubakar Mustapha Bakura to steal N2.9million from his employer under the guise of carrying out a spiritual exercise in order to make him rich.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Sugum, was apprehended in a house located at Pompomari Bypass in Maiduguri metropolis, after his name came up in the course of investigating a petition from Bakura’s employer.
This was disclosed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), of the Maiduguri Zonal Command, who confirmed the arrest of the two suspects over alleged fraud and theft.
The anti-graft agency stated it was Bakura, under interrogation, who mentioned Sugum as the beneficiary of the monies he stole from his employer.
“Upon his arrest on July 8, 2021, Bakura admitted stealing from his boss. He added that the stolen money was collected from him by Ayu Sugum, who promised to make him rich within two weeks.”
“Bakura also claimed that he was given a handkerchief and a concoction to drink and each time he took the liquid, ‘he loses his memory for days’ and subsequently went to steal money from his boss to give to the spiritualist”
According to the EFCC, upon his arrest and interrogation, Sugum confessed giving Bakura a handkerchief and concoction to drink, but claimed that the money he received from him was not up to N2.9million.
The Anti-graft agency stated that the suspects will be charged to Court as soon as investigations are concluded.
