Police operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos, have arrested a man, Isaac Jacob, who allegedly conspired with his wife, Comfort Jacob, to secure employment as a housemaid to a 75-year old elderly woman and took $12, 000 dollars before relocating to Benin City, Edo State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Fiyindanu Street, Aroseh Estate, Magodo, Lagos, where the victim, Mrs. Dakore Oyaide, resided and engaged Comfort as housemaid on monthly salary.

The Police stated that when Mrs. Comfort got employed as housemaid, she had an ulterior motive. She gave a fake name as Happiness in order to secure the job on 9th February, 2022. Two days later, when the victim went out, she broke into her bedroom and stole the Dollars and another cash of N500,000 and escaped.

She went home immediately and told her husband, Isaac, and then handed the envelope containing the money to him. When the husband opened the envelope and discovered that it was Dollars and the Naira, they arranged and relocated to Edo State.

When the couple got to Edo State, they rented an apartment and bought choice wares to furnish it properly. The apartment was said to be located at 28 Asibo Street, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City, Edo State.

The matter was reported to Isheri Police Division and later transferred to the SCID, Panti, Lagos. The operatives moved into action, tracked the couple and brought them to Lagos for interrogation over the conduct.

During investigation, the wife confessed that her husband, Isaac, was jobless and their child was sick so they needed money to take the child to hospital. So two days after she was employed, she broke into her madam’s room and carted away the money.

She told the Police that when she took the envelope containing the Dollars, she did not know what was inside it, until she got home and showed to her husband. It was the husband, who discovered the money was Dollars and they changed the money before they relocated to Edo State.

However, they did not know that the Police were trailing them until they were arrested and brought back to Lagos to prosecution for conspiracy and stealing.

They were subsequently charged before the Ebutte Meta Magistrates Court for the alleged offence and they pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Olatunde Kehinde, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Ekudayo, granted them bail and ordered their remand in Correctional Centre pending when they perfect their bail conditions.
