After five children, the marriage between Abiodun Akinyemi and his wife, Christiana, has collapsed over a prophecy by the husband’s Pastor that his wife was behind his woes in Ibadan, Oyo State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the the man, Abiodun, walked away and filed a suit before Mapo Customary Court in Oyo State seeking for the dissolution of their marriage on the grounds that she was quarrelsome and always fighting him.
An embattled Abiodun told the Court that he lost his joy when he got married to Christiana, got so frustrated and moved out of their home into an apartment in their church, yet Christiana did not show any remorse rather came to church to fight and disgrace him.
He pleaded with the Court to dissolve their marriage for him to have peace of mind because his embattled wife, Christiana, was threatening him.
The matter was later adjourned because Christiana was absent in Court and a fresh hearing notice was served on her and she appeared before Court and asked the Court to dissolve their marriage as well.
She stated: “I met my husband while training as an apprentice. We met on the mountain where we went to pray. I was initially reluctant going into a relationship with him, but my mother encouraged me and it ended in marriage”.
“We held an introduction ceremony which was well attended by both families and he paid my bride price. We lost our first child after delivery and had five others after this out of which four are remaining.”
“My husband has proved to be irresponsible since the outset of our marriage. He abandoned his duties in the home and neglected our children. He hardly gave us feeding allowance and was not bothered about our children’s welfare. He returned home one day screaming and shouting at me and calling me names.”
“He stated that a prophet told him I was the cause of his setback and misfortune and that he instructed him to part ways with me.”
“He went to his room, packed his belongings and moved out of the house.
He walked out of our marriage since January 2019 and never deemed it fit to ask about our children’s welfare.
Our children were sent out of school this term because he has failed to pay their school fees.”
“My lord, I agree to divorce and also pray for the custody of our children.
I want him to give our children, N40,000 monthly for their upkeep and pay their school fees as and when due.”
The Court President, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo, having listened to the parties, adjourned the matter till 8th August, 2023, for judgment.
