Man Watches Self On CCTV Stealing Phone At Restaurant After Being Arrested By RRS Operatives

A man, Ifeanyi Okonkwo, was forced to return a phone belonging to a customer, which hee stole at an eatery in Alausa area of Ikeja, Lagos, after he watched himself on CCTV stealing the phone and was unable to deny. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Okonkwo, was apprehended by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) from the Lagos State Police Command after he was captured on the CCTV stealing a phone at an eatery on Kafi Street in the Alausa area of Ikeja.

 

One month later, he returned to the same restaurant. According to a post on the official X handle of the RRS, the suspect was nabbed when he returned to the restaurant after he stole the device.

He was arrested and detained for interrogation over the stolen phone. Initially, he denied knowing anything about the alleged theft and the Police then played the CCTV footage and asked him to watch.

 

While watching the CCTV video, he saw himself stealing the device and was unable to deny any longer. He then confessed and told the Police that he sold the phone after he stole it. And then took the Police to the buyer and the phone was recovered as exhibit.

 

According to RSS:

“The suspect Ifeanyi Okonkwo, on November 7, 2024, was at the restaurant to purchase food but ended up stealing a Samsung A15 mobile phone belonging to another customer. Unknown to him, he was captured on CCTV while stealthily taking the phone on the counter.
Not realising that people were on the lookout for him, he was at the same restaurant on 5th December, 2024, where he was spotted and promptly arrested by RRS operatives near the scene.”

Meanwhile, the operatives have recovered the phone from the buyer while the suspect has been charged to Court for the alleged criminal offence and remanded,
