The Premier League festive fixture continues with a key match on Monday as Manchester United face Newcastle United at St James’ Park. Despite contrasting form and fortunes, both teams have plenty to fight for as they prepare to face off in one of the most anticipated matches of the weekend.
This Premier League festive fixture promises high drama and exciting matches with significant implications for the title race, European qualification, and relegation battles. Football fans can access all Premier League action on Showmax for N3,200 per month
Manchester United are in dire need of a turnaround. Ruben Amorim’s side has slumped to three straight defeats, failing to score in their last two games. These include a shocking 3-0 home loss to Nottingham Forest and a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Languishing in 14th place, a win over Newcastle is essential to restore confidence and salvage their season.
On the other hand, Newcastle remains a formidable force under Eddie Howe, with their star man,  Alexander Isak, playing in good form. They will look to exploit United’s defensive vulnerabilities and secure a vital three points in their pursuit of a European spot.
Elsewhere, league leaders Liverpool will travel to London to face West Ham United Arne Slot’s Reds, which are in good form, having won their last two games convincingly against fairly decent opposition, Tottenham and Leicester City. With a game in hand and a comfortable lead at the top, Liverpool will aim to extend their dominance over second-placed Chelsea.
The Blues themselves face Ipswich Town in a crucial away fixture on Monday night. The Blues are looking to recover from a disappointing week, which saw them held to a goalless draw by Everton and beaten 2-1 at home by Fulham. Enzo Maresca’s side must rediscover their attacking flair to avoid slipping further behind Liverpool in the title race.
Tottenham Hotspur, reeling from back-to-back defeats, host Wolverhampton Wanderers. Ange Postecoglou’s team will be desperate to stop their slide and climb back into contention for a top-six finish.
