CYRIACUS IZUEKWE

A 52-year old married man, James Augustine, has landed in trouble after he allegedly engaged an 11-year old girl in sex romp in Lagos and was caught in the process.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ejigbo area of Lagos, where the suspect, James, runs a business while he resides at Adigun Street in Itire area of Lagos with his family.

It was gathered that the married suspect reportedly lured the victim to an undisclosed place and penetrated her before he was caught and handed over to the Police at Ejigbo Division.

The suspect told the Police that he talked to the victim and she consented. But on her part, the victim claimed that he got her confused and lured her into the act.
After interrogation, the Police found James culpable and he was later charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence. When he was arraigned, the prosecutor, Inspector Edet Akadu, objected to his bail and asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. K.O Ogundare, denied him bail and ordered him to be remanded in prison custody.
The matter was adjourned pending the availability of the report of the DPP’s advice.
The defendant may be transferred to the High Court for defilement if he is found culpable and his trial recommended by the DPP.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that James Augustine may spend several years in prison custody if he is tried and found guilty before Court.
The married defendant told P.M.EXPRESS that he had normal sex with the victim but the Police insisted that she was a minor and he was culpable for statutory rape.
