A 57-year old married man, Rasheed Yusuf, has landed in trouble for allegedly luring and engaging his co-tenant’s 16-year old daughter in sex.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Yusuf, has been arrested and charged for statutory rape under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The incident happened between 28th July, 2024 and 22nd September, 2024, at Ilupeju Road, Ilupeju area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect, who was said to have been sleeping with the victim for the past months without his wife’s knowledge, had warned the victim not to tell anyone about it.
However,  the information later leaked and the victim informed her parents about what had been happening for the past months which the suspect asked her not to tell anyone about it.
The matter was then reported to the Police at Ilupeju Division. The suspect was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over the alleged conduct.
During interrogation, he reportedly admitted and told the Police that he did it with her consent. But that did not save him as the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s legal advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 5th November, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
