A 59-year old Herbal Home owner, Bolanle Ifedodiyomi, has been arrested for allegedly stealing a new born baby delivered in her home, which she took to an unknown place in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Onilude Street, Atoboye area of Agege, Lagos State, where the home is located.
She was arrested following an alarm raised by the mother of the new born baby, Mrs. Ajimoh Bola, which attracted neighbours around and the Police were alerted. She was arrested and detained at Agege Division for interrogation.
According to Police sources, Mrs. Bola was delivered of her baby at the home. While she was still resting, the defendant reportedly took the baby away without informing the mother, who then raised alarm.
The motive behind her action was suspicious as some people suspected she wanted to sell the baby before the mother woke up.
However, during interrogation at the Police Station, she claimed she took the baby away in order to treat her mother of an undisclosed ailment without the consent of the baby’s mother.
The Police found her culpable and later charged her before the Ogba Magistrates Court for alleged stealing.
She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asked the Court to give a short adjournment to enable the Police to prove she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Layinka, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She was remanded in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 6th October, 2021, for mention.
