MC Oluomo And UK-based WBO Cruiserweight Champion Okolie To Engage In Boxing In Lagos

Oshodi, Lagos will be agog today when the amiable Chairman of Lagos chapter of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Musliu Akinsanya, popularly called MC Oluomo will play host to United Kingdom-based World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Cruiserweight champion, Lawrence Okolie in his office.

P.M. EXPRESS reports that Okolie, who has been in town in the last couple of days, is visiting MC Oluomo to engage the Lagos NURTW boss in what sources said is part of the effort to popularise boxing among the teeming and vibrant NURTW members in the Lagos.

Already, MC Oluomo is putting finishing touches to a boxing championship which will be organised in Lagos before this year runs out. The tournament is one of several efforts MC Oluomo is putting together to help develop boxing in Nigeria and more importantly, among NURTW members who love the pugilist game.

Meanwhile, WBO Crusierweight Champion Lawrence Okolie has expressed delight with the abundance of talent in the youths in Lagos state and has decided to engage them through sports

Lawrence Jnr. who represented Great Britain at the 2016 Olympics in Rio said that his aim is to fight in Nigeria before he retires and has been in contact with Anthony Joshua to help develop the sport.

“I am determined to help Nigerians succeed through sports, especially boxing,” he said.

He said boxing has brought him fame and fortunes, hence his determination to help Lagosians, bus drivers and conductors act professionally through sport.

According to him, boxing is a sport for people who are disciplined and hopes that with the help of MC Oluomo, more of the drivers and conductors will channel their energy to the sport.

The former cruiserweight champion of the world, Durodola Olarewaju was once a bus conductor, and Lawrence is confident that Nigerians have so much to offer the pugilist game

MC Oluomo praised Okolie, who has 10 wins from 18 fights, describing him as a role model to many Nigerians and urge him to go all out in his next fight in July.
