A 27-year old meat seller, Ahmed Bashiru, who allegedly used a knife to cut off his friend’s ear at Abbatior Market in Oko-Oba area over a misunderstanding, has been remanded in prison custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect,  Bashiru, was arrested and charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for cutting off Abdulahi Adulmalik’s right ear over a misunderstanding they had in 2023 as revenge.
The incident happened at about 4.00am at the market when the defendant took a knife, which they use for killing and sharing of meat at the market, to cut off the victim’s ear.
The defendant was charged for causing bodily harm to the victim on the day the incident happened in the market.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinleye Funmilola, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Hughes, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
The Lagos State Police Command had earlier confirmed the arrest of the defendant through the Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.
The Police image maker stated that the victim was rushed to the hospital, where he is still being treated and the defendant will be charged before Court for the alleged offence but that will be after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
