Prominent Igbo leader and former President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State, Chief Dr Oliver Akubueze, popularly known as Mmiri Ndigbo, has thrown his weight behind Senator Martin Agbaso’s governorship ambition ahead of the next election in Imo State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Chief Akubueze made the declaration during a stakeholders’ meeting, where he called on Imo people to rally support for Senator Agbaso, describing his aspiration as timely and in the interest of the state.
Chief Sir Akubueze, who is widely respected for his grassroots mobilization and consistent advocacy for the welfare of Ndigbo, said Senator Agbaso possesses the experience, capacity and vision needed to reposition Imo for sustainable growth.
The community leader noted that Imo needs a leader with proven track record in both public service and private enterprise, adding that Senator Agbaso’s background as an economist, former Senator and public servant places him in a strong position to deliver results.
Giving reasons for his endorsement, Mmiri Ndigbo described Senator Agbaso as “a detribalized leader, a bridge-builder, and a man who understands the pains of the common man”.
He said Senator Agbaso has consistently shown commitment to development, unity and inclusive governance throughout his political career, stressing that such qualities are needed to heal divisions and foster peace in Imo.
“Senator Martin Agbaso is not a stranger to service. He has the blueprint, the network and the political will to fix Imo’s economy, improve security and restore hope to our youths,” Chief, Sir Akubueze stated.
The former Ohanaeze Lagos President also praised Agbaso’s track record in attracting federal presence and infrastructure to the state during his time in the Senate and in public office.
He argued that with national connections and understanding of federal processes, Senator Agbaso would be able to attract more developmental projects to Imo and ensure the state gets its fair share of national resources.
Chief Akubueze called on Imo people across Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe senatorial zones to rally behind Senator Agbaso’s ambition, stressing that unity among the people remains key to achieving good governance and lasting development.
He urged political leaders, traditional rulers, women and youths to set aside personal and sectional differences and support a candidate who prioritizes the collective interest of Imo citizens above individual gains.
“This is the time for Imo people to speak with one voice. We need a governor who will work for all, not for a few. Senator Agbaso represents that hope,” Mmiri Ndigbo concluded.
Senator Martin Agbaso is yet to formally declare for the race, but endorsements like this are seen as early signs of growing momentum ahead of the 2027 Imo governorship election.
