The Modakeke Islamic Grammar School Old Students Association (MIGSOSA) on Saturday, 28th September, 2024, gathered at the school premises to witness the grand finale of the activities marking a week long celebration of the school’s 50 years of Excellence (1974 – 2024).
The event, dubbed the “Golden Jubilee Anniversary Celebration,” attracted distinguished guests, former students from various sets, and staff of the prestigious institution.
As part of the grand finale of the anniversary celebration, the old students association commissioned new projects for the development of the school.
The projects commission included; renovation of the administrative block, renovation of the toilet, provision of water storage tank, renovation of the Physics, Biology and Chemistry laboratories, establishment of poultry enterprise and renovation of the school hall.
It was gathered that these projects were part of the alumni’s broader commitment to enhancing the learning environment for current and future students, with the aim of fostering academic excellence and sustained school growth.
In his welcome speech, the school’s principal, Oyewole Yunusa Animasaun, extended heartfelt gratitude to the alumni for their invaluable contributions, which have significantly transformed the school’s infrastructures and elevated its educational standards.
In his keynote address, the National President of the Alumni Association, Professor Kolawole Soyebo reflected on the significance of the 50 years in the phases of humanity, noting the school’s humble beginnings and its transformative journey.
He emphasized the responsibility of alumni to ensure that the legacy of MIGS endures, inspiring generations to come.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji (Dr) Chief Fatai Kolawole, a retired Permanent Secretary, emphasized the need for continued collective effort to ensure the school’s future success.
In his speech, Chief Kolawole paid tribute to the founding fathers and pioneering staff of the school, praising their vision and hard work, which laid a strong foundation for the institution. “Without them, we wouldn’t be here today,” he noted.
He urged the alumni to give back to the school by mentoring young people, helping them navigate life’s challenges, and supporting the school’s mission of developing future leaders. “It is our responsibility to give back to the school that shaped us,” Kolawole said, emphasizing the importance of supporting education beyond academics by nurturing character and morality.
Chief Kolawole also acknowledged the challenges faced by public schools, particularly the shortage of teachers and infrastructure.
He praised the efforts of the Osun State Government, led by Governor Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, for its plans to recruit more teachers for public schools.
However, he urged the government to act swiftly in addressing the pressing need for staff in many institutions, including Modakeke Islamic Grammar School.
“The government has a sacred duty to provide truly free and qualitative education in public schools. It’s the only way to achieve access, equity, and equality in educational opportunities for all, irrespective of economic status, gender, or race,” he emphasized.
Addressing the students, Chief Kolawole urged them to focus on their studies and avoid vices such as drug abuse, cultism, and examination malpractices. He reminded them that education is not just about academic achievement but also about building strong character and developing their unique talents.
The event featured cultural performances, music, and a lecture delivered by Elder Olusakin Oyetade aimed at inspiring both the old and current students as well as the well wishers in attendance. Alumni from various graduating sets introduced themselves, shared memories of their time at the school, and made further pledges to support the institution.
The climax of the event was the official commissioning of the newly completed projects, marking a significant milestone in the school’s history.
The commissioned facilities are expected to raise the standard of education at MIGS, equipping students with better tools to achieve academic success.
