Mother, Daughter Remanded Over Alleged Forgery, Perjury

Magistrate Mrs. J.O. A. Adepoju of Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos has ordered that Alhaja Modinat Olusesan and her daughter, Mrs. Abiola Remi-Louis be remanded at the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos pending when they will be able to perfect the bail granted them by her court over alleged forgery and perjury brought against them by the police.

The duo were arrested and arraigned before the court on a two-count charge of forging company documents and swearing to an alleged false oath by the police at the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Haruna, informed the court in charge No O/50/2016 that the accused persons committed the alleged offence on 10 October, 2012 at Akanbi Crescent, Onitiri, Yaba and on 21 October, 2015 at Chief Magistrates’ Court, Yaba, Lagos.

Haruna told the court that the mother and daughter were arrested and arraigned in court following a petition to the AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos by Mr. Remi-Louis that his wife, Mrs. Abiola Abolore Remi-Louis forged the documents of the  company they co-owned, Skin Speaks Services Limited in possession of Barr. Ilori Folorunsho and used the forged documents to set up another company with similar services with Skin Speaks Services without his consent.

Haruna said that the complainant also accused his mother in-law, Alhaja Olusesan of swearing to an oath at the court that Otunba Ashogbon Olusegun is now the husband of his wife and her son in-law knowing full well that there is still legal marriage between him and her daughter spanning about 14 years and blessed with children.

Haruna said the offences the mother and daughter committed are punishable under section 363 and contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

Alhaja Olusesan, a resident of Afolabi Ekinyoyo Street, Solebo Estate, Ikorodu, Lagos and her daughter however pleaded not guilty to the police allegations in the open court and Magistrate Adepoju admitted them to bail in the sum of N50,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

Adepoju adjourned the case till 6 September, 2016 for mention and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Zone 2 Command, Lagos till they are able to fulfill their bail conditions.
