MTN Foundation on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, distributed learning support materials to junior students of Ibeku High School, Umuahia. Items distributed to the students include school bags, exercise books, and water bottles.
The MTN Learning Support Materials Initiative is an initiative of the Youth Development Portfolio of the MTN Foundation, committed to providing access to quality education through the provision of learning materials to children in public secondary schools across Nigeria.
This initiative is a powerful strategy to facilitate access to a quality learning environment for thousands of secondary school children, especially in local communities in Nigeria. Education remains one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives and building prosperous communities, and every child deserves not only access to education, but also access to the tools and resources needed to learn effectively and succeed.
The impact of MTN Foundation’s Learning Support Materials Initiative has continued to grow across Nigeria, with over 1,000 schools across the 36 states and FCT reached through the programme. In 2025, 2,636 students across seven states received school bags and exercise books through the initiative. Teachers were also provided with support materials in recognition of their critical role in shaping the next generation. The programme’s impact was further extended to the students gathered at the event, with the learning materials serving not only as school supplies but also as a source of encouragement and opportunity, reflecting a strong belief in their potential and future success.
Mrs Priscilla Otti, wife of Governor Alex Otti, who was a special guest at the event, described the intervention by MTN Foundation as a practical investment in the potential of children and a meaningful contribution to the future the State Government seeks to build. She expressed profound appreciation to MTN Foundation for extending its learning support material initiative to Abia State.
Represented at the event by Adaeze Emetu, wife of the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Mrs Otti said that the donation of 1,200 branded school bags, 12,000 exercise books, and 1,200 water bottles for junior students of Ibeku High School will go a long way in easing their learning process. “We value this partnership and the example it sets as a responsible corporate citizen,” she said.
Lady Ada Ochor, Principal of Ibeku High School (Junior), earlier in her welcome address thanked Mrs Otti for nominating the school as a beneficiary of the programme, stressing that her passion for basic education has continued to open life-changing opportunities for their students. She noted that MTN Foundation, through the initiative, is meeting a real classroom need and supporting their academic foundation.
Bright Chukwuocha, one of the recipients, thanked MTN Foundation for the gesture and promised to put the materials to good use.
