MTN Wins Telecom of The Year and Employer of the Year at NECA Award for Excellence 2020

MTN Nigeria Communications Plc has been awarded the Telecommunications Company of the Year and the overall winner, Employer of the Year at the maiden edition of Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) 2020 Employers’ Excellence Award Ceremony.

The awards were in recognition of MTN Nigeria’s outstanding performance at exhibiting excellence in leadership, governance, innovation, and corporate performance.

The Annual Employer’s Excellence Award seeks to celebrate organizations, which have implemented policies, systems, and processes that create and sustain enterprise competitiveness, productivity along with industrial peace and harmony.

At the event which was held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at The Eko Hotels and Suites, the Telecoms and Employer of the Year awards were presented to MTN Nigeria by NECA in appreciation of the ICT company’s resilience, doggedness, and outstanding performance.

Commenting on the award, Chief Human Resources Officer, MTN Nigeria Esther Akinnukawe, said the company was pleased to have been recognized by NECA for its immense contributions to Corporate Performance and Technological Optimisation. 

According to her, “As a technology company and partner in the development of Nigeria’s economy, MTN will continue to put its workers first in line with implementing best practices, thereby contributing both to economic prosperity and industrial harmony in Nigeria.”

Mrs. Akinnukawe expressed the appreciation of MTN Nigeria to NECA for the recognition and assured stakeholders that the company will continue to invest time and resources in its people.

Also speaking during the Award Presentation Ceremony, the Director-General of NECA, Mr. Timothy Olawale applauded the award recipients for their contribution towards ensuring best practices for others to emulate.

He said, “Through such exposure, employers will have an extra channel of enhancing their brand profiles as leading and responsible employers in Nigeria, contributing both to economic prosperity and industrial harmony in Nigeria.”

He further added that being the authentic voice of business and the recognised institutional representative of Nigerian employers locally and in the international community, there is no organisation better positioned to organise an award to celebrate employers in Nigeria than NECA.

This award adds to the list of recognition given to the telecommunications company in recent times. A few others include Data Service Provider of the Year (2021) and Most Responsive Organization to the Covid-19 Pandemic Crisis in Nigeria (2020).
