The Yusuf Grillo Hall at Yabatech, Lagos, on Friday 10th May, 2019, witnessed free flow of speeches from different speakers on the need for the Nigeria youth to find their voice.

Speaking at the event, Music star, Vector, made the youths to understand that he is a product of the street but that the street does not depict thuggery or rough life. He encouraged them to maximize the opportunities that abound on the internet aside fraudulent activities. He said they can as well become social media influencers, make money from there and not just waste data on things that will not add value to their lives.

Vector said that as much as he is calling on government at all levels to live up to their responsibilities, the youths should like he did accept education, enlightenment and forward thinking.

According to Mr. Rasaq Ivori – a Communication Strategist and the brain behind the Street Voices, the conference became necessary because of the need for the youth to have a voice.

Mr. Rasaq explained that Street Voices is a network that connects or amplifies social concerns. He said it acts as a voice bank; it saves voices elicited from personal urban challenges and invests them into advocacy for social change. He explained that it functions as a shoreline; it breaks down the tide of governmental policies to the people as well as reporting the waves of challenges posed by such policies from the people to government.

He went further to posit that the government can only react when the youths are genuinely and actively involved in the way public officials emerge. He encouraged the youths to amplify their voices but to endeavour to speak with a common voice for things to change in the right direction in the country.

Others speakers at the event equally encouraged active participation in the political process by the youths and effective use of the internet to force positive change across different sectors of life.

High point of the event was the presentation of customized souvenirs to youths who were actively participating online by encouraging others to join the crusade by tagging the event on Twitter and other social media networks.
