We Must Keep Watch On Gov Ambode Over Bad Policies – CDHR

The Chairman – Campaign for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, Lagos State, Comrade Alex Omotehinse has stated that the group will not relent in criticising Governor Akinwumi Ambode and make him to change bad policies where necessary for better governance in the State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Omotehinse stated this during the CDHR public awareness campaign held on Saturday at the Ejigbo unit in Lagos.

He stressed the need for Lagosians to keep their eyes on the government so that the praise singers will not make the governor to derail and work against the interests of the people. He noted that the governor has been trying his best especially in the area of infrastructures  development, but stated that it was not enough to keep silent if he introduced any bad policies that would further impoverish the people in the State.

He hinted that there were some policies which the government recently introduced in the State such as the land use charge, toll gates and others which they considered were against the people. He said that the group had made their position known and protested against such laws in the State.

CDHR chairperson also said that when the people react to such negative policies, that it will be a kind feedback to the government to know and retrace its steps to the right direction which was one of the aims of forming CDHR by the founding fathers.

However, Omotehinse said that the criticism must not be destructive but  constructive and ideological in line with the democratic principles.

The group held a programme with the topic: Democratic System of Government, Experience and Cost Effectiveness. They advised that Nigeria should go back to Socialism system of government which they described as a major economic tool for even development and empowerment of the people. They noted that when such form of government is in place, that the power will reside with the people and the issue of bad governance will be a thing of the past.

Several organisations attended the event which took place at Excel Secondary School and they treated many topics ranging from health, domestic violence, economic empowerment to skill acquisition and other areas.

Some of the participants expressed their satisfaction on the success of the event and described it as enriching and educating to the benefit of the members of the public.
