The Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, Hon. Samson Olatunde Folorunsho, has advised media aides of Executive Chairmen in Lagos State to be very loyal to their principals.
The Council Boss gave the advice at the Maiden edition of CPS Conference 57 Retreat held at Varjane Hotel and Suites in Badagry, Saturday October 27, 2018. The theme of the retreat was Effective Information Process With Lagos State Local Government Areas: The Role of Media Aides.
The CPS Retreat anchored by CPS Jide Thompson, the Chief Press Secretary to Otto-Awori Local Government Chairman, commenced on a high note as media aides clamoured for improved working conditions and equal representation amongst colleagues.
He urged the two Council Chairmen (Badagry LGA and Olorunda LCDA) to encourage other Council Bosses who could not sponsor their CPS to the retreat to see the event as a proof of how to improve their administration. “We request that you speak to other Chairmen to always sponsor their CPS on matters involving our group,” he said.
The bespectacled and veteran event moderator also suggested that Council Chairmen should include CPS into the Executive arm of the local government, citing CPS Dolamu Ahmed from Itire-Ikate LCDA who doubled as Supervisor for Information and CPS to the Council Chairman. “If we are included in the Executives, certain information that will be relayed to us can be got on a first hand basis, and that will improve our information management and dissemination,” he added.
Reacting to some of the issues raised, the Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, Hon. Samson Olatunde Folorunsho, expressed delight at the large turn-out of members of the group. He encouraged them to do more in the areas of publicity, saying the group must be involved in every aspect of social media, including newspaper and television.
In the speech read by Hon. Samson Olatunde, the Council boss of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, the host community for the retreat, he advised members of the group to be loyal to their principal.
“Let me reiterate here, however, that those of you here are the image makers of your principals. Therefore, you have to be up and doing. I want to encourage you all to make sure you develop robust and positive relationships with your principals as this would guarantee effective communication. You also need to make researches about new ideas happening around you. As professionals in media, your inputs can as well go along way in promoting the government of your principals.
“Furthermore, one vital area that must not be compromised while discharging your responsibility is your loyalty to your Principal. If there are rules guiding you, this, ultimately, is the golden rule. Loyalty to your principal should not be relative; it should be absolutely absolute. Your responsibility is hugely on trust. Your principal has reposed some level of confidence in you and the only way you won’t be found wanting in this regard is your unflinching loyalty. May your loyalty never be tested.”
Corroborating submissions of his sister Council Development Area, Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government Area, Hon. Segun Onilude, warns the group to remain upright in the discharge of their duties, saying the CPS must not engage in frivolities.
“You must not engage in frivolities and do not drag your principals into the mud. And you should take this job seriously because while you are projecting your principals, you are also selling your qualities for future prospects,” he added.
The CPS Conference 57 Retreat also had as facilitators Mr. Tokunboh Ojekunle, ace broadcaster and Station Manager for TVC and Radio Continental, and Bolanle Olukoju, who is a Google Instructor. They engaged the media aides on how to maximize the social media and other means of news dissemination for the progress of their respective Local Government Area and Local Council Development Areas.
