CYRIACUS IZUEKWE

When Bride Assembly Church Ijesha, Lagos State, welcomed a 34-year old Onyemaechi Maduabuchi to their fold, they probably never knew that they were dealing with an unrepentant armed robber.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that while Maduabuchi was taken to the Church vigil for deliverance, he instantly stole a member’s SIM and memory cards, was caught in the act and handed over the Police, where he confessed that he was actually a hardened criminal.

During interrogation, the suspect, Maduabuchi, told the Police that he was a hardened criminal, who escaped from the Owerri Correctional Centre, Imo State, after the jail break that occurred on 5th April, 2021 at 2am to his parents house in Onitsha where his mother arranged and he was taken to his sister in Lagos.

However, in the process of rehabilitating him by taking him to the Church, he stole right there during deliverance.

This was confirmed by the Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi.
Adejobi said that the suspect, who fled Owerri that same day, 5th April, 2021, moved to Fegge in Onitsha, Anambra State, to meet his mother, who later linked him up with his elder sister, Amarachi Maduabuchi, f, of Customs Bus Stop, Ijegun, Lagos.

The sister thereafter invited him to Lagos on 19th April, 2021.The suspect was kept in the sister’s house from where she used to lead him to Church for special deliverance service.

However, in the process, after the vigil on 20th April, 2021, at Bride Assembly Church, Ijesha area of Lagos State, the suspect allegedly stole the SIM and the memory cards of a member (name withheld) of the Church before he was eventually arrested and the stolen items recovered from him.

CSP Muyiwa Adejobi said that in the course of Police investigation, it was revealed that the suspect had been standing trial since 2009 for Conspiracy, Armed Robbery and Arson before Justice Nna Amadi of Ngbidi High Court 1, at Mgbidi in Imo State.

The suspect has confessed to the crime while the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that the suspect should be handed over to the Nigerian Correctional Service for further investigation and necessary action.

Adejobi said that the Commissioner of Police therefore, assured the general public that the Command will not relent on its efforts in making the state safe and peaceful for all and sundry to live in as all hands are on deck to effectively police Lagos State.
