At his first meeting with management and staff at the Commission’s headquarters, following his appointment as Acting MD/CEO of the NDDC, Prof. Nelson Brambaifa assured that welfare of Management and staff is a top priority of his administration. This in his opinion would help boost productivity, staff moral for service and attitude to work, which by implication would improve the service delivery by the Commission in discharging its duties to partners and contractors, thereby accelerating the development of the Niger Delta region.
In keeping to this vow, upon resumption of work, Prof. Brambaifa hit the ground running by looking at critical areas of concern to staff of the Commission, their plights and genuine worries. In just less than Four (4)months in Office, the Staff of the Commission are already singing praises Commending the fatherly approach the Acting MD/CEO has taken to address their concerns.
Brambaifa’s administration has not only kick-started the regularization and proper placements of Staff but had also commenced the issuance of promotion letters to deserving and due staffers first time in four (4)years, following non-implementation since 2016, this gesture to most of them has also revived the happy work attitude for which the NDDC staff is known for, due to his magnanimous approach to the concerns of the staff.
It is important to state here that staff promotion has been an issue of concern at the NDDC for a long time now, where the Commission’s records show that the last promotion was in 2016 and since then there has been a sort of stagnation not just in that direction but on the general welfare of staff.
At an interactive meeting/session with the staffers of the Commission that was attended also by the Executive Director for Finance and Administration (EDFA), Dr.Chris Eyirinda, Prof. Brambaifa informed members of staff that he, having risen to his current position after a long and fruitful steady rise through the public service (administration) is equipped enough to understand the plight of public/civil servants, and having served in the Commission as the Bayelsa State Rep, he fully understands the spirit in and around the Commission, therefore is poised to meet the yearnings of the collective will of staff, however assure them of his determination to constantly improve the welfare of the Management and staff of the Commission, hence the Union should seek ways of putting him in the know of genuine concerns of the general staff. He however, admonished the staff union and staff to always apply the 3Cs in dispute resolution, these he said are Consultation, Consolidation, before Confrontation in the particular order, if the order is followed wrongly and you want to confront first you get yourself into a brawl that may not end or go down well even with you.
Earlier, thanking the Brambaifa led Management of the Commission, the staff applauded the efforts put in by the MD/CEO to ameliorate their plights, as for about 4years now, there has being no genuine concern for the staff, but the present administration has within a short period of just (in 3months) turned around their fortunes. The staff also requested that in the same vein, the MD/CEO should also look into the matter of arrears of staff following the promotion and regularisation, as these are genuine claims. Upon this request, Brambaifa ordered the Union leaders to come along with some directors to sit down with the management team in-house in other to swing into action by working out the necessary modalities for execution of the demands of the staff, and urged staff to be confidential in dealing with vital official documents, double their efforts, and shun corrupt practices so as to enable the NDDC deliver on its mandate to Niger Deltans as captured in its establishment Act.
