The Orashi National Congress (ONC) has carpeted detractors of the Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), describing claims that he is not working as false, misleading and a wicked attempt to distract a performing MD/CEO.
In a press statement dated Saturday, 7th November, 2026, and signed by its President General, Ambassador Emeni Ibe, JP, AP, the ONC said its attention had been drawn to sponsored falsehoods being peddled by enemies of progress.
“This claim is false, misleading, and a wicked attempt to distract a performing MD/CEO. We therefore present the verifiable facts for Niger Deltans and the general public to judge,” the statement said.
The Congress noted that the MD/CEO assumed office on January 5, 2023, inheriting an agency plagued by abandoned projects and scandals. He declared a doctrine of _”Transaction to Transformation”_, moving the Commission from awarding contracts for politics to completing legacy projects that impact lives.
His Verifiable Achievements:
1. Unprecedented Road and Bridge Revolution
Roads and bridges too numerous to mention have been constructed, rehabilitated and completed across the Niger Delta, reconnecting communities long cut off by bad roads and collapsed infrastructure.
2. Operation Light Up The Niger Delta*
– Over 7,000 solar-powered streetlights installed, with mini-grids in over 500 communities.
– Restoration of the 45km power line from Omotosho to Okitipupa, which restored electricity to Ondo communities after 15 years of darkness.
– Completion of the Amufi 33/11KV Substation in Edo State.
3. Human Capital, The Biggest Investment
– Foreign Scholarship: Reformed from scandal to merit-based selection through Computer-Based Test (CBT). 589 scholarships awarded since 2023. Scholars recorded 11 distinctions in 2024 and 32 distinctions in 2025 at Coventry and other top universities. 200 scholars selected in 2025 and 200 in 2026.
– *Youth Internship Scheme:* 10,000 youths across the Niger Delta placed on a 12-month internship with N50,000 monthly stipend, launched August 2024.
– *Digital Delta:* 45,000 U-lesson tablets procured for rural schools to bridge the digital divide.
4. Health and Social Infrastructure*
– 142 modern health centres built and over 30 rehabilitated.
– 3 specialist hospitals for maternal and child health established.
– Over 50,000 residents screened and 20,000 free surgeries carried out under the Free Healthcare Programme.
5. Institutional Reforms and Transparency
– First NDDC leadership to engage KPMG to review operations.
– Recovery of N15 billion in diverted funds through forensic cleanup.
– Institutionalization of Alternative Dispute Resolution, reducing litigation by 40%.
– Full automation of procurement and restoration of 13 statutory directorates.
– For these reforms, he was honoured as Nigeria Regional Government Development Champion of the Year 2025 by the London Political Summit and named Interventionist Agency of the Year at the Vanguard Personality Awards.
“In three years, he has done what 16 MDs before him could not do in 25 years,” the ONC said.
The Congress urged the public to ignore detractors who have never built even a culvert, and invited Niger Deltans to visit the many communities now lit up, the roads now motorable, and the hospitals now working, and judge for themselves.
“He is working, and the Niger Delta is seeing it.”
