Ndigbo Media Forum Worldwide has denounced the National Assembly over rejection to immortalize the former INEC Chairman, late Professor Humphrey Nwosu, who conducted the most free and fair June 12, 1993 election, which was cancelled by the Military junta.
P.M.EXPRESS reports as was disclosed by the National Coordinator of Ndigbo Media Forum, Rev. Paul Eze, in Lagos State.
Eze expressesd his deep outrage and disappointment regarding the rejection by the members of the National Assembly, who chose to ignore calls to honour the legacy of Professor Humphrey Nwosu, as a true champion of democracy in Nigeria.
The group stated that apart from the rejection of the motion, the uncomplimentary language used by some of the Senators were disappointing and a display of insensitivity capable of undermining the values of unity and integrity.  The NMF said it also sends a distressing message to citizens about the pervasive influence of tribalism in our political discourse.
“Instead of rallying behind a figure who exemplified fairness and transparency, these members of the House have chosen to remain silent, betraying the very principles upon which our democracy stands” Eze said.
He noted that Professor Nwosu took huge risk and put his life on the line by rejecting the order of the Military junta and went ahead to conduct the June 12, election and even declared some of the results.
He explained that apart from that, Nwosu still went ahead to challenge a group known as ABN led by Chief Arthur Nzeribe purportedly sponsored by the Military junta.
Eze wondered that if Professor Nwosu did not announce the results of the election in various states, Nigerians would not have known that the late Chief MKO Abiola won the election before the Military dissolved INEC and cancelled the election.
“It is unacceptable that a man who dedicated his life to ensuring the voice of every citizen was heard is being disregarded simply due to the biases of some in leadership. We must rise above tribal divisions and honour those who fight for the justice and equality” he said.
Rev. Eze called upon the citizens to urge the National Assembly to take immediate actions to immortalize Professor Nwosu.
“It is time for our leaders to prioritize the history of integrity over tribal loyalties” Eze said.
In his final submission, Eze eulogized the Southeast Senators that staged a walk out during the inglorious conversation. He stated that the Senators stamped their foots on the sands of time and posterity will continue to announce their good works both in death and life.
Rev. Eze stated that Ndigbo will never forget such exibition of trust and die hard spirit as patriotic Nigerians
