A 37-year old woman, Mrs. Jumoke  Adesida, protested over the allegation by the police that she stole a 2-year old baby girl. She claimed to have picked up the baby on the street and used her to replace her estranged child that her husband took away from her.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that  Mrs. Adesida was arrested and paraded by the police for stealing a baby at the State Command, Ikeja, Lagos.

The Ondo State-born Adesida said that she got married some years back but her husband sent her away and took custody of her child. She said that since then she was lonely and needed a child to play with.

However, the police found her culpable upon arrest, detained her and rescued the baby.

The police boss, CP Imohimi Edgal, said that on 22nd June , 2018, one Aminat Abidoye of 12 Kazeem Adeboye Street, Jerry Farm, in Odoguyan, Ikorodu, Lagos came to Shagamu Road police station and reported that her 2-year old daughter, Miss Rokibat, was missing from her shop.

He said that based on the information, he directed the Officer in charge of the Anti Kidnapping Squad to move into action and unravel the mystery behind the disappearance of the child.

Edgal said that the squad swung into action tapping into robust community policing structure and it paid off as the suspect was traced to a village called Odo-Kekere in Ogun State. He said that during interrogation, Mrs. Adesida confessed and explained that she needed a child to play with as her husband took away her only child from her.

CP Edgal thanked the members of the public for reposing trust and cooperating with the police. He promised that the police will continue to do their best to ensure that properties and lives were protected in the state. He warned parents to take care of the children in view of the teenagers arrested in connection with cultism and stated that he had declared war against cult activities and other criminal offences. The CP promised that the police will fight them to a stand still.
