A hand of fate has favoured a female new born baby, who was dumped by the roadside by her mother, as she was rescued alive by the Police in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the lucky baby, who the Police claimed was one month old, was rescued on Friday 14th May, 2021, at about 8am, after she was abandoned at the junction of Odun-Ade Filling Station by Orile Bus Stop, Lagos.
According to the residents, who witnessed the rescue, they said that the mother of the baby may have dumped her in the early hours of the morning and went away leaving the baby to her fate before she was rescued.
This was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, after the rescue.
Adejobi said that the baby was sighted by some passers-by who alerted the Police operatives attached to Orile Division of the Lagos State Police Command before she was rescued and handed over to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja.
The baby was taken to the office of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, by the Officer in charge of the Gender Unit, where CP Odumosu directed that the baby be accorded proper medical attention and taken to a Government accredited shelter (facility) for custody and proper care.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, reassured the general public that the Command will continue to work with all relevant Government agencies and interest groups in fighting against this inhuman act and other social vices in Lagos State.
Similarly, on 15th March, 2021, another day old bay was found by an unnamed person abandoned on Oladejo Street, Oko Oba in Agege area of Lagos State, which the CP called on women folk to come all out in condemnation of the act describing it as callous.
The Police boss expressed his intention to discuss with the Ministry of Youth and Social Development on processes of adopting the handsome looking boy as soon as possible.
He urged women, especially young ladies, to desist from this callous act, which must be unequivocally condemned by all and sundry in the state and Nigeria at large. It was not yet certain if Odumosu will declare intention to adopt the lucky baby girl.
