Newly enthroned Bishop of Orlu Diocese (Anglican Communion), Benjamin Chinedum Okeke, has disclosed that the diocese is in dire need of N250 million endowment fund to advance the course of evangelism in the area.

Okeke, who disclosed this shortly after receiving the symbol of office as the 3rd Bishop of the diocese at a special church service marking his  enthronement at the Cathedral Church of S.S Peter and John the Divine Nkwerre, said that he would build upon the foundation laid by his immediate predecessor, Most  Rev. Dr. Bennett C.I Okoro.

Very Rev. Cyril C. B Okorie, Dean of the Cathedral, while presenting the symbol of office to the new Bishop on the mandate of the Archbishop, Metropolitan Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, urged him to be loyal and steadfast in the performance of his sacerdotal duties as a true ambassador Christ

Bishop Okeke, who until his selection, confirmation and subsequent consecration, was the Archdeacon of Nwangele and Vicar, Holy Trinity Church, Amaigbo, called for team work among the faithful to move the Diocese forward.

Relying on the theme “Come, Let us rise up and continue to build our diocese”, the Bishop reminded them that a tree does not make a forest, stressing that he who claims to be “Mr. Know it all” is a problem unto himself and to the society at large.

“The task ahead is enormous and we need men and women who are strong pillars and not caterpillars, men and women with great visions and ideas”.

Bishop Okeke angrily denounced the upsurge of moral decadence in society and the hardship in the land even as he enjoined all to remain committed in the service of God.

“We must be bulldozers and not destroyers and we must overcome factors militating against our spirit to draw closer to God” he said.

He commended Governor Emeka Ihedioha for his efforts to move the state forward, noting that the payment of pension to retired workers in the state has continued to cushion their plight.

Governor Ihedioha, who spoke on the occasion, congratulated the Bishop on his enthronement and enjoined him to always remain prayerful for continued peace, progress and unity of the state and the nation at large.
