The rumoured governorship ambition of former governor of Anambra State and current Minister of Labour, Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige has reportedly thrown All Progressives Congress, APC in the State into a political crises.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Ngige had earlier said that he will not contest the seat which prompted some of the aspirants, namely Senator Andy Uba, Chief George Muoghalu and others to show interest.

However, Ngige’s earlier position seems to have changed following his recent reaction and that of his supporters.

A chieftain of APC told P.M.EXPRESS that Ngige is considering picking the ticket by himself as the leader of the party in the State.

He said the consideration was as a result of the options available in the party where those aspiring to contest for the seat were new entrants to the party, except Chief Muoghalu.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Ngige was also afraid of his political future should another candidate emerge and win the governorship election.

“It means all the efforts he made to sustain and keep the party together in the State despite all odds in the past will be wasted and another person will take over the leadership”

This rumoured decision by Ngige and his earlier promise to the aspirants were currently causing crises in the party.

It was learnt that it has polarised the party into new and old APC members.

Some of the aspirants’ supporters told P.M.EXPRESS that Ngige was said to have collected certain unverified amount of money from the aspirants and promised to support their ambition.

However, it seems that the initial agreement cannot work again as Ngige’s supporters have asked him  to come out and contest in order to retain the structure and leadership of the party in the State.

When our correspondent called Ngige to confirm if he had actually declared interest to contest, his phones were switched off.

However, his aides said it was only Ngige that will confirm or deny his stand on the issue, but he was yet to resign as Minister in this present administration.

According to another top member of the party in the state, Ngige will determine what will happen in the State because he remains the oldest and leader of the party in the state with the structure intact.
