The police have unmasked and arrested some leaders of a Non Governmental Organization, NGO, who used sick people as beggars on the streets to enrich themselves in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the leaders arrested were Paul Samuel, Chukwuma Igbokwe, Ofiga Ayuba and Mr. Bright Edet.

They were arrested after the police received a report that the suspects and other now at large were using some victims for street begging. This was confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal at the State Command.
According CP Edgal, their illegal activities were exposed after another NGO tipped the police what the suspects were doing with sick people on the streets.
One of the victims, Mr. Joseph Monday was apprehended based on the information and he revealed what the suspects were doing as he was brought from his village to Lagos for the same purpose.

Mr. Monday revealed that the group brought him to Lagos from his village in Benue State under false pretence that they will assist him to raise funds to tackle his health challenge. He said when he was brought to Lagos; the leaders lodged themselves in a hotel but sent him and others to the streets to beg for money. Mr. Monday narrated that after they had moved from streets to another and solicited for money, the leaders will collect the money from them and continued to enjoy themselves in a hotel.

When the police arrested the suspects, they confessed and said they were working for Paul Samuel and Jacob Ogochukwu who were said to be at large. The police boss said the other suspects will surely be arrested and those already arrested will be charged to court for prosecution.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the victim, Mr. Monday had hernia problem and needed to go for operation but he was brought to Lagos, put on the streets to beg and thereafter render the account to the suspects who spent the money and did not reserve any part of the money for their treatment.
