Chairman of African Democratic Party  ADC,  in Lagos State, Chief Babatunde Daramola has said that there is nothing Nigerians should celebrate as the country marked 58th Independence Anniversary on Monday.

Daramola said the level of poverty and suffering ravaging the country showed that Nigeria has nothing to celebrate after 58 years of independence. He said it is unfortunate that countries such as India, Vietnam and Singapore which don’t have resources like Nigeria are doing well in areas of economy, politics and commerce.

“ For me there is nothing we can celebrate because this is not the level where we supposed to be in term of economic development. There are many countries that are not better than us in terms of economy and they are moving higher than us. Security is nothing to write home about, our economy is in serious setback day by day and Nigerians cannot eat three square meal in a day, so if all these are not there, what are we celebrating then, “ Daramola asked.

The politician said the only thing Nigerians can celebrate is for the fact that they are alive. He said many Nigerians want to be alive but today they are no more.

“ Let celebrate that we are alive. God keeps us alive and gives us sound health. That is the only thing Nigerians are enjoying for now.The way things are going the ADC party is ready to deliver Nigerians from poverty, disease, corruption and economic backwardness. We are using medium to call on Nigerians to vote for ADC comes 2019 general elections so that we can bring the needed change to the country, “ he said.

Commenting on embattled Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode predicament,Daramola said it was ready to welcome Governor Akinwunmi Ambode into its fold and field him as one of the party’s governorship aspirant ahead of the 2019 general elections.

He, however, admitted that Ambode would not be given an automatic ticket, saying that all the aspirants would be given level playing ground.

“We thank Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for what is happening in Lagos State. APC revolution normally starts from within. We have a cabal that is ruling Lagos State in the APC. This cabal consists of just five people, but I will not mention names. So, it is good that Governor Ambode fought them to a level.

“The cabal has stifled Ambode to the throat. Residents of Lagos State should support him. We will welcome Ambode to our party if he decides to cross over, but we will not give him an automatic ticket, he will have to compete with other aspirants for the governorship ticket.”
