Nigeria Must Outlive Buhari – UNDEDSS

UNDEDSS, the premier pan-Niger Delta coalition of stakeholders has warned President Muhammadu Buhari against actions that are brazenly unconstitutional and insensitive, to avoid setting Nigeria on fire, or even trigger off another civil war in the country, asserting that Nigeria must outlive Buhari.

In a statement made available to the media today, Monday January 28th, UNDEDSS (United Niger Delta Energy Development Security Strategy) described recent events in the political space of Nigeria as sinister. The UNDEDSS Secretary-General, Mr. Tony I Uranta, called on all Nigerians to resist any “sinister attempt to rob them of the freedoms and rights which many died for, in the process of wresting democracy out of the evil jaws of military dictatorship.”

UNDEDSS called on President Buhari and his advisers to urgently retrace their steps before they are doomed to go down in history as the ones that finally made Nigeria a failed state.

Citing what the Niger Delta leaders called “the impunity of trying to effect the removal of the nation’s Chief Justice without adherence to the Rule-of-Law; the support of the President for appointment of his cousin to man the overall Collation Centre for the upcoming Presidential Elections in which he is a candidate; and the scandalous selection of all but one of Nigeria’s Security Chiefs from the Northwest, amongst a myriad of anomalies”,
UNDEDSS called on all Nigerians to “immediately commence peaceful civil disobedience actions nationwide to defend Nigeria’s democracy”, even whilst admonishing all citizens to act only within the boundaries of the Rule-of-Law.

“All well-meaning Nigerians/Influencers cannot but oppose the FGN’s obvious plot to heat up the polity”, said Mr. Tony I Uranta, UNDEDSS Secretary-General, continuing that “ALL Nigerians must ensure that the General Elections hold, against the plot of those who have probably seen themselves as losing in February. Nigerians must organise or join nationwide protests against the ongoing tyranny”.

Mr. Uranta went on to say that “Nigerians must NOT condone any extra-judicial shenanigans by any individuals or groups to frustrate the Rule-of-Law in any way. For example, if the Chief Justice of Nigeria (or any other servant of the Nigerian people) commits a crime, by all means let them be dealt with, but only as laid out in the 1999 Constitution as amended”

The UNDEDSS Scribe declared that “whilst the Niger Delta supports that there must be no sacred cows, the region will not support that the nation’s leaders be allowed to circumvent the Rule-of-Law with impunity or enthrone the corruption of nepotism.”

Finally, UNDEDSS warns that the region’s silence should never be taken for granted. It avowed that UNDEDSS stands with all sane Nigerians and the International Community in condemning the ongoing bastardisation of Nigerians’ democratic space and tenets, especially by the Federal Government of Nigeria headed by President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.”

Enough is finally enough.
